One of the main factors in the loss of heat in a house is the lack of roof insulation. A large percentage of heat is lost through an uninsulated roof. This means you need to spend quite a lot of money on heating your home.
Therefore, every homeowner sooner or later thinks about how to insulate the roof. And, of course, this question is relevant for those who are building a house.
Roof insulation
No other insulation can serve as well in roof insulation as foam glass. At the same time, foam glass is an excellent insulation material for any type of roof (see Fig. 1).
Foam glass prevents moisture from penetrating the room, even if the top layer of the coating is damaged. In case of fire, internal and external damage will be minimal due to the non-combustibility of foam glass. The numerous advantages of this material guarantee excellent roof insulation for at least hundreds of years.
In addition, roof insulation with foam glass has several other advantages:
- such roof insulation significantly reduces heat loss;
- our insulation will never harbor mice or mold, even after a roof leak.
- insulating the roof with foam glass eliminates overheating of the roof spaces (attic residential and non-residential premises).
How to insulate a roof?
Foam glass can be used both in the under-roof space and on the roof itself (if there is a flat roof or a flat roof in use). As a rule, sheet foam glass is used under the roof and it is mounted on wooden structures (rafters, beams, etc.) without the use of additional films (vapor barrier, water barrier).
In Sydney, many companies offer insulation services to make homes more energy-efficient and comfortable. You can pick the one that does the best and most efficient job in insulation.
For a flat roof over a reinforced concrete floor, it is advisable to use TG waterproofing foam glass with a layer of bitumen and polyethylene film. A layer of bitumen applied to this foam glass creates additional waterproofing, and there is a better connection with the next layer of the structure. With a flat roof, the covering includes the following structural balls:
- load-bearing elements of the covering (reinforced concrete slabs, metal profiled flooring);
- thermal insulation (foam glass);
- cement-sand screed;
- roof.
To insulate a pitched roof, foam glass is laid out in one layer, mounted in the space between the rafters or on wooden flooring.
Foam glass is installed using special elastic adhesive mixtures.
To insulate the roof, you can also use foam crumbs as a backfill thermal insulation material. More foam crumbs are needed than block foam glass since its thermal conductivity coefficient is higher. However, the price of foam crumbs is lower, and effective insulation can be performed at lower costs.
